"Why does one sample take a week, but 5,000 pieces take a month?" Buyers ask us this all the time. Here is how a CNC machining project actually moves from drawing to delivery.
Step 1: RFQ and DFM review - 1–2 days
You send a 2D drawing or 3D model. We check tolerances, material, surface treatment and quantity, and flag anything that will add cost or risk. A clear drawing here saves days later.
Step 2: Programming and first article - 2–5 days
CAM programming, fixturing and machine setup come first, then the first article is machined and measured against the drawing.
Step 3: Sample approval - depends on you
We ship samples with a dimension report. Once you approve, production is locked. Late design changes are the main cause of delays.
Step 4: Batch production - 1–3 weeks
Time depends on quantity, surface treatment (anodizing, plating, black oxide) and inspection level. CMM reports and salt spray tests are available on request.
Two ways to speed things up: freeze the drawing before sampling, and confirm the surface treatment together with the sample.
